Nano Magnetics Polar Modular Magnetic Pen and Stylus - Review

Here's my verdict: not worth it.

  • I praise the idea, hence I paid and bought it.
  • The coating peel off very easily.
  • There are just so much you can do with it without the ball magnets
  • Constant worry that the magnetic field might damage your electronics or credit cards.

The pen is a good conversational piece if it managed to stay shiny longer: the silvery coating started chipping off with only 2 days of fiddling.  No, I bought it from a reputable store so it is not a cheap copy.  Here's the photo of how this the coating of the magnets modules on the polar pen chipped after less than 48 hours of fiddling.  By the way, none of the magnets of the polar pen ever got dropped on the ground, and I played the polar pen on a wooden dining table.

I am guessing in a few months time, the silvery could-have-been awesome pen that I bought for USD30+ would look very dull with the grey stone like surface of the magnets showing and only a few patches of silvery chips dangling on the body of the pen like skin hanging off the zombies, and every time I use it the pen will leave some shards of shiny chippings on the paper.

The body of the Polar Pen: large section of the coating chipped off  just this morning.

One of the magnetic module on the Polar Pen, chipped at near the the ends of the module after a few rounds of playing.

The writing end/head of the Polar Pen, the black module is to hold the ink/pen tip in place.  A lot of scratches on the surface as the magnetic cap snap back to the rest of the body, the black coating came off as well.
